Artist Statement
Prompt: You must research your designer and create a poster of the information requested. After researching that designer, you may choose to swap it for another designer of your choice. In addition, you must pick a second designer to research. It may be a designer on the list provided in class or may be someone you find on your own. Why pair these two?
For my take on this assignment I decided to pair up Paula Scher and Margo Chase, two designers that I felt, while very distinct different styles, spoke the same volume in their work and two designers that helped shape the modern day design world that we know today. Scher and Chase both embody the high contrast and "In Your Fuckin Face" attitude that you get when in conjunction. "In Your Fuckin Face" is derived off of the way they design pieces. The uses of edgy yet legible typefaces, big bold design that fills the space, the use of dark shades as well as light hues. Their designs are like no other. They helped shape contemporary design for what it is today and we see most of their work on a daily basis. Looking at their work separately you can see they are also very different. Scher always uses set typefaces, while Chase would hand write as well as use set typefaces. If it wasn't for the path that they laid, we wouldn't have the contemporary design of today.
